Removable Tree wall decal.

I've searched everywhere for an affordable tree sticker to place on my wall and spruce up our stairway.  Unfortunately, $60-$200 for a sticker is definitely not affordable! So, I gathered some courage and decided to make my own. .. Check out my results!

And this is my final results!

The Love and family quotes are from the Dollar Tree. The black photo frames are also from the Dollar Tree. I hand painted the leaves on Avery Full sticker sheets then made copies onto the stickers sheet. The birds and rope are decals, I found online awhile back.

Don't be intimated. . You too can do this!! Trust me when I tell you. ..I have absolutely ZERO artistic skills!

Okay, so first hit up your  local hardware supply store and  purchase whatever color contact paper you would like.  I purchased my black roll from Orchard Supply for only $7.99!! 24 Feet for 8 bucks! Can't beat that!

Next: Tape or use some tacks to place your contact paper  (measuring/grid side facing you. Color facing the wall) on the wall, where you plan on placing your decal.  You can measure it out and cut from there or you can start drawing as its hanging there.

I drew out the tree trunk while it hung but I forgot to take an example picture.. sorry.

There's my trunk.  With a bunch of junk on top of it. . I guess you can say I got junk on my trunk. Haha.

Anyways.  Before you cut out your trunk go wipe down the wall where your awesome new decal is going to be.  I just used warm water and then took another clean rag to dry it off.

Now you can start cutting the trunk out. You can stick your trunk on the wall and make your branches as you go along but I laid everything on the floor since I was still hesitant about how it was going to turn out.

*side note: when you cut out your trunk try to keep the contact paper attached as one whole piece. Do the best you can that way you can use the remaining paper for the tree branches.
Start cutting out the branches.  You can draw them out on the backside of your contact paper, I decided to cut them out freely.

You can probably tell by this photo why I was still hesitant about my art skills.  Don't worry- it will look a lot better once its stuck onto the wall.  :)

Now: Take a photo of your tree so you can go back and remember where to place everything.  You can also label  them on the backside if that helps.  This is how my tree looked as a Draft once my trunk was stuck onto my wall I free styled from there.

To start sticking: You will need masking tape, scissors and a spatula. I tied a zip lock baggie around it to avoid the black paint from my spatula rubbing onto my walls while flattening out the decal.

Tape your tree trunk onto your wall, right in the middle with masking tape.  The masking tape will not strip the contact paper.  At least mine didn't. . you can test it out first on some scrap contact paper.

Now, begin peeling at the top of the tree trunk to remove the protective paper. Stop peeling once you reach the masking tape that you placed in the middle of your trunk. Cut off the protective sheet.

Take your spatula and flatten out the decal.  Try to release any air bubbles to create a Smooth finishing look.
Now you can remove the masking tape and peel off the other half of the protective paper. Start peeling from the top half (of where you cut off.) Peel it off slowly and stick the decal onto the wall as you work your way down.

Ta-da!! Now you can start sticking on your branches.

Here's my tree...almost complete.  I'm not sure if I'm going to add leaves or not.  I have white sticker sheets that I can use to paint out some leaves. I can also buy some colored contact paper.. still not sure.  But, I am adding family photos to that sting that's dangling and a few family quotes. The Dollar Tree has some cute wall decals with family quotes on them. You should check them out. :)

I hope my photos and steps are clear enough. Don't hesitate to comment below with any questions.
